Our local ham store (North Olmstead Amateur Radion Depot, North Olmsted
Ohio ) stated last week that they automatically return all 530s to Yaesu
for the mod to cure this. They install it free and turn the radio around
in less than a week.

Ya know, it absolutly amazes me the lack of quality that hams will put up
with in a radio as long as it a.) looks spiffy and b.) they know someone
else that made the same mistake (er ah... choice. Yeah, that's it)
Kenwood for years has been pulling the game of adding noise to the front
end and cutting off the lowend audio response so the radio "sounds hot".
And a little under dampening in the CW filter makes a pleasant ringing
tone that just "jumps out of the QRM". Ya gotta love it! (It only takes
a handful of parts to make a receiver that's just on the verge of self-
oscillation. You really don't need to spend $2K plus.)
But the DX Hogs (oops, I mean emergency preparedness types) around here
with the Ultra-2K amps and 80 foot towers swear by them for snagging that
rare one. (er I mean passing health and welfare traffic).
